Ash Wednesday
One of the most solemn days in the church year is Ash Wednesday.
This marks the beginning of Lent, the penitential season leading up to Easter that lasts forty days. It is traditional during this service to be ashed by the priest, being marked with a cross on your forehead while the priest says the words: ‘Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from your sins, and be faithful to Christ.’
On Ash Wednesday we hold a short early morning said eucharist, and a sung eucharist in the evening.
